TAA & WIOA Funding
Funding may be available to you via the TAA & WIOA programs.
Do you qualify?
Funding is available to students through the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) or the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). TAA is a federally-funded employment program that assists workers whose jobs have been impacted by foreign imports, while WIOA provides federal job training funds for adults and dislocated workers. As a student with funding through TAA or WIOA, there are special considerations that apply to you. Please carefully review the information and instructions on this page to ensure that your funding continues each term.
TAA Supported Students
As a TAA student at Edison State Community College, there are special provisions that apply to you. Keep a copy of your TAA contract, academic plan, and placement scores in a folder in a safe place. These are important documents.
You have been approved for the specific classes and costs shown on your academic plan. These must be adhered to. These specific amounts will be applied to your Financial Aid account each semester. Meet with a TAA advisor for ANY changes to your academic plan. Changes to your contract require processing of a modification and approval by TAA (Trade).
TAA FAQs
Once you get underway as a student at Edison State, you will meet with a faculty advisor in your program of study to register for future classes. Your faculty advisor's name appears on the advising tab within Student Planning in MyESCC. Bring your TAA folder with you, to register for the classes shown on your academic plan.
If your faculty advisor recommends any changes to your academic plan, you must schedule an appointment with your TAA advisor to process a modification.
Your faculty advisor must sign your registration form. Take the signed registration form to the registration counter in Student Services to complete your registration. Register early so that you can get the classes, days, and times that work best for you. Important dates:
- Registration occurs in April for Fall semester
- Registration occurs in November for Spring semester
- Registration occurs in February for Summer semester
As indicated on your TAA contract, only required textbooks and materials are covered as shown on your academic plan. Because textbook costs may change from the time your contract was approved, it is the student's responsibility to review required textbook charges for each semester at the bookstore (or online) and alert your TAA advisor if there are changes to the approved amounts. Changes to your plan will require a modification.
Purchase used books when possible.
If your program requires materials or services not available in the bookstore, you must see your TAA advisor for necessary authorization forms and vendors.
Any changes to your contract require processing a modification and must be approved by TAA (Trade) before they are implemented. This includes course changes, substitutions or additional charges by term. Changes not approved are the responsibility of the student.
Generally, your instructor will talk about this at the beginning of the semester. TAA requires attendance in all classes, which is necessary to be a successful student. In the event of sickness or emergency, please notify your instructor and ensure you have a plan in place to make up missed work.
We want you to succeed. There are many resources available to provide additional support to students.
WIOA Supported Students
As a WIOA student at Edison State Community College, you have been approved for the specific program of study, classes, and costs shown on your academic plan. There are special provisions that apply to you as a continuing WIOA student. Keep a copy of your approved academic plan and placement scores in a folder in a safe place. These are important documents that you will take to future advising appointments.
Maintain close contact with your WIOA representative at Job and Family Services. Each agency has specific requirements for funding your education. In most cases, funding authorization must be submitted each semester by the agency and is contingent upon you submitting satisfactory progress, attendance records, etc. It is your responsibility to meet these requirements on a timely basis so that the WIOA agency can submit the required payment authorization necessary to apply funds to your financial aid account.
