FAFSA

The FAFSA is used to apply for federal student aid programs.

What is FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the application used to apply for the federal student aid programs offered by the U.S. Department of Education. All students entering college are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA.

File Your FAFSA Early

IMPORTANT  The FAFSA will be available to all students beginning on October 1 of each year.  (Excluding 2024–2025 FAFSA)

The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is once again available when completing your 2023–2024 FAFSA. However, data retrieved will not be visible once transferred in order to maintain privacy for students and/or parents. Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool is still the recommended option to choose when completing your FAFSA.

Priority Deadlines

Your FAFSA and all necessary documents should be received by Edison State's Financial Aid office (including verification documents, if selected) by the financial aid priority deadline dates for several reasons:

  • Making the priority deadline date is the only way to guarantee that your aid will be processed in time to charge your tuition, fees, books and supplies.
  • If you do not make the priority deadline date, you may have to make arrangements to pay for your tuition, fees, and books out of your pocket until your financial aid is processed.
  • If you do not make the priority deadline date, you may not be able to charge at the Bookstore.
  • Some financial aid programs have limited funding. By making the priority deadline date, you are more likely to be considered for those programs as funding will, most likely, not yet be exhausted.

Help Sessions

Our financial aid staff is available to help you through what can seem like a daunting process. In addition to one-on-one counseling, FAFSA help sessions provide the opportunity for you and your parents to receive professional assistance completing this form. Appointments can be made by calling 937.778.8600. If you plan to attend a help session, please review the list of documents necessary to complete the FAFSA that you will need to bring with you. A helpful tutorial video can also be found here. If you are ready to complete the FAFSA, click below to get started.

Transfer Students

Financial aid, including student loans, does not automatically transfer from one school to another. Your eligibility at one school does not guarantee eligibility at another school. In order for Edison State to know if you are eligible, you will need to complete the steps listed below.

  1. Cancel any aid earned through your previous school.
The first step you must take is to cancel any pending aid at your previous school. Most schools require this request to be submitted in writing. Contact the Office of Financial Aid at your previous school for their specific requirements.
  2. Add Edison State’s School Code to your FAFSA.
If you have already submitted the FAFSA at your previous school, you will need to add Edison State's federal school code (012750). This can be done on the FAFSA website.
  3. Complete Edison State’s financial aid application requirements.
Even though you may have completed some of these same steps with your previous school, you will need to complete the application requirements at Edison State. This includes, but is not limited to, completing the verification process.
  4. Complete Edison State’s loan application process (if you wish to borrow).
Once again, your application and eligibility at a previous school does not guarantee eligibility at Edison State. Each school is responsible for determining the eligibility of each of their students independently. Please review Edison State’s requirements for student loan borrowers for information on how to apply.
