Our Career & Job Services advisors are dedicated to helping students and alumni advance their professional development as they make career decisions, develop job search strategies, pursue experiential opportunities and secure employment. In addition to advising opportunities, Career & Job Services also provides career assessments, career information, resume and cover letter help, job postings and resources, tips for interviewing and more.

    The first step in career planning is to explore yourself, including your interests, skills, values and personality. Career Assessments help you explore and identify careers that match your unique characteristics. We encourage you to complete both of the following assessments and schedule an appointment with a Career Advisor to review your results. If you are interested in a Career Assessment, please let them know when you schedule your appointment. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire prior to your appointment to facilitate a follow-up discussion with the Career Advisor.

    Holland Careers

    The Holland Career Model is a brief assessment of your personality and interests that you can use to find careers that may fit you. Access the Holland Career Model below.

    TypeFocus

    The TypeFocus questionnaire is an in-depth, online, career planning tool based on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Follow the instructions and steps below to access the TypeFocus Career Assessment.

    1. Click here to register/login.
    2. Create a username and password that you will remember.
    3. Complete the Personality Questionnaire.
    4. Confirm the results and read about your four personality traits.
    5. Look at the Careers that Fit Your Strengths (USA).
    6. Place a checkmark in the box next to the Personality Report and follow instructions for printing.
    7. Bring the pages you printed with you to your career appointment.

    OPTIONAL  Students are encouraged to complete additional sections of this program, including Values, Interests and Skills, for additional insights and resources related to career planning.

Our career advisors can provide additional interpretation and resources to help you choose a college major or career path that is right for you.

    Ohio Means Jobs

    The Ohio Means Jobs website is a great resource for assessing your skills and mapping your career plan. You can also search for jobs in your area and post your resume for Ohio employers.

    2016–2026 Occupational Trends

    The 2016–2026 Occupational Trends brochure explores expected trends for future employment opportunities. The occupational trends information will allow you to make informed career, education and training decisions.

    OCIS | Ohio Career Information System

    The Ohio Career Information System (OCIS) is an Internet-based delivery system for accurate, comprehensive, current, and relevant occupational, post-secondary school and financial aid information. OCIS contains the latest national, Ohio and local labor market data and projections. Login information is provided below. Username and password are case-sensitive.

    Occupational Outlook Handbook

    The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a way to find out about a specific occupation or topic. For each occupation, you will find working conditions, what workers do on the job, expected job prospects, earnings and the training and education needed.

    O*Net Online

    O*NET Online is a national resource developed by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). It includes job titles for almost 100% of the workforce, with current information on wages, growth, and job openings. It also identifies interests, skills and values associated with specific careers.

    Glassdoor

    Glassdoor gives you an inside look at company reviews, interview questions and salary information for thousands of companies.

    LinkedIn Profile Tips for Job Seekers—Self Made Millennial  YouTube Channel

    This LinkedInProfile Tips for Job Seekers video located on the Self Made Millennial YouTube channel is a tutorial for beginners to help you create a LinkedIn profile. This video page also includes a link to download a LinkedIn Profile Makeover Checklist that will provide instructions on how to revamp your profile to get more LinkedIn views, engagement and connections.

    SOCHEIntern

    SOCHEIntern connects students in need of internships with employers in need of interns. One application will allow you to be considered for multiple internship programs. College students can apply for year-round and summer positions both on Wright Patterson Air Force Base and with local employers.

    WISE Career Pathways 

    Women in Sustainable Employment (WISE) Career Pathways is a career exploration program designed for women to learn about in-demand careers such as those in manufacturing, supply chain & logistics, information technology (IT) and construction. These are high wage occupations that can provide stability for women and their families.

    Whether you are an individual looking to take your career to the next level, a business looking for top talent or an educator wanting to shape Ohio's future curriculum for the better, Ohio's Top Jobs can provide you with valuable insights to help guide you along the way. 

    Job Shadowing

    Job Shadowing is a great way to research a career. Connect with someone in your community who does what you would like to do. Don't know anyone who has your ideal job? Contact Career Services for assistance.

    Student Worker Programs

    Student Worker Programs provide Edison State students with an opportunity to work and earn money while enrolled in classes. 

    Looking for a job or internship? Below you will find recommended job sites holding hundreds of opportunities. Edison State students and alumni are encouraged to register and upload their resume to the Edison State Job Board. The Edison State Job Board has job listings from area employers who are specifically seeking Edison State students and alumni. There are also Work Study opportunities listed for students who would like to work on campus.

    Edison State Job Board

    Edison State Community College, in conjunction with College Central Network, is pleased to offer the Edison State Job Board, an online job board system. As a student or alumni of Edison State Community College, you have access to this job board and its related job search resources, which include tip sheets, career articles, and videos written by industry professionals. The following provides information on accessing the job board.

    • Click the "Student" or "Alumni" icon.
    • Click on the link to register as a new user or, if you are already registered, log in using your Access ID and password. Once registered, you must log on at least once a year, or your account will be deleted and you will need to re-register.
    • Using our online job board, you can search for part-time or full-time jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities posted exclusively to our school or other community colleges in our region. New postings are added weekly. You can also search College Central Network's job board, which has thousands of entry-level job postings available nationwide, including the Dayton area. New jobs are added daily.

    Government Jobs

    USAJOBS is the official job site of the U.S. Federal Government. It is your one-stop source for Federal jobs and employment information. Find jobs available to the public and specific groups of people, including individuals with disabilities, veterans, students, and senior executives.

    Ohio Means Jobs

    Ohio Means Jobs provides search results for hundreds of jobs and internships posted from popular job sites like Monster, CareerBuilder and many others. In addition, this site includes a wealth of job search resources, including area job fairs.

    Preble County Careers

    Preble County Careers provides career and job information for the Preble County area.
