In celebration.
Juneteenth marks our country's second independence day and commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States. It was on June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, that troops arrived in Galveston, Texas with the news of freedom.
