2026-27 Edison State Lady Charger Basketball Team

The Edison State Community College women’s and men’s basketball teams returned to the court this past weekend, when the Lady Chargers took on Danville Area Community College at home on Friday, October 30, and both teams traveled to Kellogg Community College on Saturday, October 31. The teams have worked hard to prepare for the season.

Head Coach Tim McMahon leads the Lady Chargers for the 13th season, bringing over four decades of coaching expertise to the program. McMahon came to Edison State in 2002 as an assistant coach under Head Coach Kim Rank, when they compiled a 78-38 record. In 2007, the program made it to their first-ever National Tournament.

In 2014, McMahon came back to Edison State to take over the program. Since his return, McMahon has assembled high-caliber teams that have regularly made the district tournament. In 2017-18, his team made it to the District I Semi-Finals with a 24-6 record. Then, in 2020 and 2022, McMahon led the Lady Chargers to an Ohio Community College Athletic Conference title. In 2022, the team advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association National Tournament.

“We’re very excited to get the season started,” McMahon said. “We return with some very talented sophomores in Felicity Harbour, Sadie Larrabee, Emerson Walker, Alianna Davis, Oliveah Sanders, Ava Sheeter, Jaela Johnson, Tatelyn Faraglia, and Avery Whitaker. They bring the skills, leadership, and mindset needed to guide this team both on and off the court.”

Joining them is a strong group of four freshmen eager to learn and contribute to the team’s success: Bella Cherry, Chloe Crawford, Rylee Hess, and Avery Kessen.

“We believe this group has the talent, work ethic, and determination to compete for another conference title,” McMahon added.

In the match on Friday against Danville Area Community College, the Lady Chargers won 81-74. They went on to defeat Kellogg Community College 66-53 on Saturday. They’ll next host North Central Michigan at home on Friday, November 6, and Cedarville University JV on Saturday, November 7, during the Charger Classic.

Assistant Coaches Doug Martin and Corey Steinke join McMahon in leading the women’s team.

2026-27 Edison State Charger Basketball Team

Leading the men’s basketball team for the ninth year is Head Coach Kyle Vanover, who has established Edison State as one of the premier programs in the OCCAC and NJCAA Region 12 by building a culture centered on competitiveness, player development, and sustained success. Since taking over the program, Vanover has compiled an 118-85 overall record while posting a 59-43 mark in OCCAC play. Steady growth and several historic achievements that have elevated the Chargers to new heights have highlighted his tenure.

A major reason for the optimism surrounding the Chargers this season is the return of their experienced and talented sophomores.

Leading the way is Malcolm Curry, who returns after averaging 18 points per game last season while earning NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American, First Team All-OCCAC, NJCAA All-District, and NJCAA All-Region honors. Curry established himself as one of the top players in the OCCAC, and the Chargers will once again count on him to lead the team’s offense and compete among the region’s elite players.

Joining Curry is fellow returning standout Frank Latham, who averaged 15 points per game and earned Second Team All-OCCAC honors during the 2025-26 season. Latham’s scoring ability and veteran presence give Edison State another proven offensive weapon capable of impacting games in a variety of ways.

The Chargers also return starting guard Cashawn Ingram and key contributors Sir Cox and Marquis Long. Their experience within Vanover’s system provides valuable leadership, depth, and continuity for a team with championship aspirations.

In addition to its strong returning nucleus, Edison State has added several talented newcomers whom Vanover expects to make an immediate impact, including transfers Jaden Dunn, Junior Kambomba, Mike Lewis, Lawrent Rice, and E’montae Weah, and freshmen Beau Booker, Damien Brock, Elijah Dunn, Ezekiel Kirby, and Cornelius Oliver.

“The combination of proven returning talent, experienced transfers, and a promising freshman class gives us a roster with both depth and versatility entering the 2026-27 season,” said Vanover.

He expects the Chargers to continue their upward trajectory. With a proven track record of winning, multiple Coach of the Year honors, All-American performers, and athletes advancing to Division I basketball, Edison State remains a program built to compete for championships.

The Chargers traveled to Kellogg Community College in their first game of the season, which they won 75-71. They’ll next face Iowa Central Community College on Friday, November 6, and Des Moines Area Community College on Saturday, November 7, during the DMACC Classic in Boone, Iowa.

Joining Vanover in leading the men’s team are Assistant Coaches Marcus Bixler, Mark Eustache, Craig Maschino, and Dakota Prichard.
