The Paul G. Duke Academy for Community Leadership and the Center for Leadership Development at Edison State Community College will host the Mosaic of Community Leadership Conference on Wednesday, May 20, from 7:45 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. at Edison State’s Piqua Campus.

The annual conference brings together executive directors, board members, staff, and volunteers to explore in-depth topics related to nonprofit management and leadership.

The event will feature a keynote address from Tom Iselin, First Things First Strategic Planning & Board Development/Training Specialist.

Over the last few decades, Iselin has built two software companies, as well as nine notable nonprofits that address some of the nation’s complex societal issues: hunger, teen substance abuse, the environment, people with disabilities, abused children, and wounded warriors—to name a few. He’s a nationally recognized speaker and author of six books, serves on multiple boards, and runs his own family philanthropy. Through his podcast, video blog, and industry articles, Iselin shares practical leadership strategies that drive engagement, accountability, and results.

In 1991, after a near-death experience, Iselin walked away from a successful career as a Chicago options trader to become a social entrepreneur devoted to building companies and nonprofits—and helping leaders elevate performance, strength, culture, and drive meaningful impact.

CNN, Nightline, Newsweek, and the Associated Press have featured Iselin for his work in the industry, some of which has helped shape national policy. He’s been voted “One of America’s best and most popular board retreat and strategic planning facilitators.” A crowd favorite, he speaks to thousands of leaders each year with his high-energy, interactive, and refreshingly candid “edutainment” style.

Iselin lives in Sun Valley, Idaho, where he enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and just about anything that involves altitude and a little risk. He runs a consulting business that specializes in board retreats, strategic planning, fundraising, and executive coaching.

The one-day conference also includes breakout education and experiential sessions led by nonprofit professionals. These sessions focus on a series of topics dedicated to strengthening nonprofit organizations.

The Paul G. Duke Foundation’s continued support and generosity make this annual conference possible.

Event registration is open. Early Bird pricing is available until April 20, 2026, at $79. Standard registration after April 20 is $89. Group rates for three or more attendees are $69 per person. Edison State alumni and Academy alumni/partners can register for $65. Each category includes full conference access, two of Iselin’s books, breakfast, and lunch.
